Distrikt41 opened its doors at the beginning of October 2021. Runned by two Dutchmen Joris Bruurs (1990) and Danny van Vliet (1991).
I met Danny through Facebook and told him about my website Eat Alicante and if he wanted to do an interview. But when he told me where the restaurant was located (in the same street where we live) we decided to meet very fast in real life. We drank a coffee and I met his business partner Joris. I saw the restaurant during construction work from scratch, made their publicity portraits (see picture above) and tasted two plates before the opening day, when taking food photos.
These enterprising, innovative men are both very experienced in the hospitality industry. Joris worked at Michelin-star restaurant De Librije of Jonnie Boer and before moving to Alicante he was Head Chef at Brass Boer in Zwolle. And Danny is the specialist in barbecue. From grilling to smoking, low and slow cooking, he can do everything at a high level.
Their self-designed oven of almost 800 kg is an important part of the kitchen, hence prominent, so that you can watch the grilling and smoking spectacle front-row.
In addition to a-la-carte food, Distrikt41 also has a 2-course surprise lunch menu for 26 euros and if you want wine and coffee, an additional 13 euros is added. In the evening they have a 5-course surprise menu for 54 euros and if you want 5 matching wines and coffee, an additional 27 euros is added.
Joris and Danny did not want to use the words bistrot or brasserie and therefore think “high-end live fire restaurant” reflects the style of their dishes and atmosphere much more.
The interior is ruggedly industrial, combined with a warm coziness of plants and logs with cookbooks.
What can you expect? For example as a starter: ceviche of sea bass with leche de tigre and avocado, with lemon grass foam and as main course pulled beef with bone marrow, gingerbread and piccalilli and a stock of shallots and for desert old Dutch stroopwafels with barbecue toasted white chocolate and pecans.
